I have had the privilege of hearing many people’s coming out stories and one thing which is unique to all of them is how difficult the experience was for the individual. Coming out is without doubt one of the most traumatic experiences of my life even though I knew deep down that my family and friends would not have an issue with it. I hope that by hearing other people’s experiences and words of wisdom that I can make someone else’s coming out experience just a little bit easier.
Ed Connell is a lawyer. For 10 years he was the manager of London Titans FC, a LGBTQ+ football team. He was also Chair of the GFSN which runs the world’s only national LGBTQ+ league and campaigns against homophobia in football. He has made many media appearances speaking about issues of diversity and prejudice in sport.
